    • Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass – This surgical procedure is considered “the gold standard” of weight loss surgeries. A small pouch is created which restricts food intake and the food “bypasses” part of the small intestine which limits calories taken in by the body.
    • Gastric Sleeve Surgery – Gastric-sleeve surgery makes the stomach smaller and the shape of a tube or “sleeve” to help an individual lose weight by limiting their calorie intake and portion size.

Weight loss surgery is recommended for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) equal to or greater than 35, regardless of presence, absence, or severity of co-morbidities. Some procedures may be approved for weight loss surgery in people with a BMI of 30 to 35 who have at least one obesity-related condition.
