First Elbow Replacement Surgery at Piedmont Medical Center Complete

Rock Hill, SC - August 23, 2018 – Piedmont Medical Center is pleased to announce its orthopedic program has completed the first elbow replacement surgery in program history.

“Piedmont Medical Center is dedicated to bringing new services to the York County community,” said Mark Nosacka, chief executive officer of Piedmont Medical Center. “The elbow replacement surgery is an example of this commitment made possible through our partnership with OrthoCarolina.”

The first elbow replacement surgery at Piedmont Medical Center was performed by Dr. Benjamin Sutker.

“Elbow replacement surgery can be very helpful for the right patient in the right circumstances, but it is not the answer for all causes of elbow pain,” said Dr. Benjamin Sutker. “The most common indication for elbow replacement surgery is a painful joint secondary to rheumatoid arthritis. A consultation with an orthopedic upper extremity specialist who has experience in elbow replacement can be helpful for those experiencing functionally limiting elbow pain or dysfunction.”

Dr. Sutker will participate in a community lecture titled “When Handshakes Hurt – Options for Arthritis of the Hand, Wrist and Elbow” on Thursday, October 25. The lecture is open to the public at no cost to participants.
